After sharp criticism from two sitting MP’s of Kashmir valley alleging Jammu and Kashmir administration of being clueless about the second wave of Covid-19, the government decided on Sunday to close all the schools for a fortnight from classes 1 to 9.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha took to twitter to announce this decision and said, “In view of rising trend in #COVID19 cases in J&K and likelihood of young children getting infected & transmitting infection in large numbers, all classes up to class 9 will be closed for 2 weeks in all schools beginning on Monday, 5 April till 18 April 21 in J&K”.

Officials from Srinagar told that from classes 9th to 12th all the educational institutions will remain closed for a week due to the spike in Covid-19 cases.

Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) has already appealed to the administration to go for mutant testing to look for the tracing of Covid variants and aggressive vaccination for the population.

Civil society members and almost all the mainstream political parties have criticised the bureaucracy for being in denial for the crucial days while the covid-19 second wave has already shown an upward curve.

Meanwhile sitting MP of Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah was admitted to SKIMS while battling Covid-19 virus. Another former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and his wife Safeena Beigh have also tested positive for Covid-19 while as on daily basis positive cases are being reported in hundreds in the entire UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Governor’s administration has come under severe criticism for conducting the tulip festival on Saturday inaugurated by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha as thousands of people without adhering to Sop’s have participated in this festival so far.

There have been a lot of official functions conducted in Jammu and Kashmir in the past one week in which there were gatherings and all the caution was thrown to winds.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha visited SKIMS to enquire about the health of Farooq Abdullah and tweeted about his visit. In his tweets Sinha said, “In Srinagar, I met Omar Abdullah at SKIMS Hospital, Soura. Enquired about Farooq Sahab’s health and instructed the doctors to provide best treatment. I pray for his long and healthy life”.

“I have also offered to shift Farooq Sahab, who is admitted at SKIMS, to another facility or hospital for better monitoring and care”.

In response to his tweets, Omar Abdullah took to twitter and said, “Thank you for your visit to enquire after my father @manojsinha_ ji. We are grateful for the offer to shift my father, the doctors & other medical staff at SKIMS Srinagar are amongst the best anywhere & my father is getting the best possible care.”
