WB Board Announces Revised Syllabus For Class 11 And 12; Changes To Take Effect Next Academic Year

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has implemented slight adjustments to the syllabi for grades 11 and 12. Several subjects, including languages, arts, and commerce, have received updates. WBCHSE President Chiranjib Bhattacharyya mentioned that these adjustments align with the new semester-based structure for higher secondary education. The changes will be effective starting with the upcoming academic year.

Starting from the 2025-26 academic year, board examinations will be administered on a semester basis instead of an annual one. Students who are currently in class 11 will transition to the semester system when they advance to class 12.

The syllabi for Statistical and Biological Science subjects within the science stream have undergone changes. A number of new topics have been introduced, and several chapters have been removed. “In response to recommendations from various sources, the Council has reviewed the syllabus of different subjects under the H. S curriculum,” the official communication states. Minor tweaks were also made to the syllabi for subjects such as English A, English B, Alternative English, Bengali A, Hindi A, Hindi B, History, Political Science, Accountancy, Costing and Taxation, Business Studies, Education, Science of Well-being, Statistics, Philosophy, Environmental Studies, Economics, Geography, and Biological Science.

All changes will be documented in the fourth edition of the syllabus book. The communication also noted that updates will be included in the upcoming edition of model question papers. “It is crucial to understand that changes mentioned in the Class XI syllabus in this notification will not affect students who are already preparing for the Class XI Semester 2 examination,” it stressed.
