The Jharkhand district of Ranchi is currently the scene of raids by the Enforcement Directorate. Early on Monday morning, the organisation was able to retrieve a sizable sum of money from Sanjiv Lal, who helps out around the house and is the personal secretary of Jharkhand Rural Development Minister and Senior Congressman Alamgir Alam.
The current inquiry into the case of Jharkhand Rural Development Department chief engineer Virendra K. Ram is connected to this seizure. A sizable sum of money was found in 2019 from one of his subordinates. The case was then turned over to the Enforcement Directorate in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Virendra K. Ram was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in February 2023 in connection with a money laundering case associated with alleged irregularities in the implementation of certain schemes. His apprehension followed multiple searches conducted by the ED on February 21, 2023, in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and several other locations across Jharkhand, Bihar, and Delhi.
