Colombian nationals are among the six suspects detained for their involvement in the murder of an Ecuadorian presidential contender, according to the interior minister of Ecuador, Juan Zapata, who made the announcement on Thursday.
According to the New York Times, this was a new twist in the murder that has shaken a country gripped by violence fed by the illicit drug trade. In a home in Quito, Ecuador’s capital, the men were hiding.
Along with a car and a motorbike, the police reportedly also seized four shotguns, a 5.56-millimeter rifle, ammo, and three grenades.
