On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep grief over the deaths and damage brought about by the earthquake in Nepal while expressing India’s willingness to help in every way possible, PM Modi extended support to Nepal.

PM Modi said on X, “Very sorry for the deaths and devastation caused by the earthquake in Nepal. India is prepared to offer all aid and expresses solidarity with the people of Nepal. We hope the injured people heals quickly and our prayers are with the relatives of the departed.

Following a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.4 that rocked Nepal in the late hours of Friday, 128 people perished and at least 141 were injured, according to The Kathmandu Post. This is when PM Modi made his speech. Prime Minister of Nepal, Prachanda Kamal Dahal, has departed for regions hit by earthquakes. In Jajarkot, more than 55 persons have sustained injuries. Five of them have been transferred to the Karnali Province Hospital in Surkhet, and the remaining ones are receiving care at different hospitals across the area.

According to a story in The Kathmandu Post, Deputy Superintendent of Police in the West Rukum district, Namaraj Bhattarai, stated that the number of deaths in the area has reached 36, citing preliminary data. Up to 36 deaths were recorded in the Aathbiskot Municipality, while eight more were reported in the Sanibheri Rural Municipality.

Eighty-five people have been injured in West Rukum. One individual has significant injuries, and plans are underway for an air evacuation while the others receive care at Chaurjahari Hospital, the district hospital, and several clinics.

Bheri, Nalgad, Kushe, Barekot and Chedagad have been severely hit by the earthquake in Jajarkot district. Chief District Officer Suresh Sunar said all the security forces in the district have been mobilised in the search and rescue work.

 

Dedicated hospitals have been established for Bheri Hospital, Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj Military Hospital, and Police Hospital. All Nepalese heli operators have been requested to remain on standby, and directives have been issued to halt scheduled flights and transfer injured people from places hit by the earthquake to other areas.

The National Center for Seismology said that a 6.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Nepal, causing severe shaking in North Indian cities, including Delhi-NCR. According to the NCS, the earthquake’s epicentre was 10 kilometers deep in Nepal.According to Nepal’s National Seismological Center, the earthquake struck on Friday at 23:47 (1802 GMT) in the Jajarkot district near Ramidanda. A 500 km radius to the west of Kathmandu, the capital, is Jajarkot.
