Rounak Khatri, representing the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), emerged victorious as the president in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. The vice-president’s position was secured by Bhanu Pratap Singh, the candidate from the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The DUSU election results, initially slated for announcement on September 28, were delayed following a Delhi High Court order. The court directed that the results remain on hold until the campaign-related defacement across the campus was cleaned up.
A total of 21 candidates contested the elections for four key union posts. Of these, eight vied for the position of president, five competed for vice-president, and four each for the posts of secretary and joint secretary.
In the outgoing DUSU, the NSUI held the vice-president’s post, while the ABVP controlled the remaining positions.
At the college level, the ABVP swept all seats in five colleges, while the NSUI secured all positions in two institutions.
