DuckDuckGo Launches Nameless, Free AI Chat With Known Chatbots

The American software company DuckDuckGo has recently launched a new feature called AI chat, which will allow users to use well-known AI chatbots like Open AI’s GPT 3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta Llama 3 and Mistral’s Mixtral 8x7B anonymously on Friday.

This chat is ‘free to use within a day limit’ and can be turned off if necessary.

While launching this new feature, the company said, ‘We view AI Chat and search as two different but powerful tools to help you find what you’re looking for – especially when you’re exploring a new topic’, asserted in blog post.

Further, the users will also get to choose chat model according to their need and requirement.

After picking the chatbot, they can use it like any other chat interface, and they cannot be traced to any individual.

The company explained the new feature, stating that chat models are typically accessed using its IP address instead of the user’s IP address. ‘This way it looks like the requests are coming from us and not you’.

In addition, DuckDuckGo also asserted, it doesn’t store and save any chats. But it might store chats temporarily to provide responses and verify the functionality of all systems.

‘..but there’s no way for them to tie chats back to you, personally, since all metadata is removed’, says privacy browser company.

While the chat is currently free, it operates within a daily limit. However, the company is currently exploring the possibility of introducing a paid plan for users who wants to use higher limits and access more advanced (and costly) chat models.

In future, it intends to incorporate additional chat models and methods of accessing through browsers.
