A courier delivery boy lost his life after being struck by a speeding car driven by a 21-year-old student in Mumbai’s Andheri. The accused, identified as Chirag Lade, was subsequently arrested by the police on charges of drunk driving and negligence.
The collision was reported to the authorities by an eyewitness, Suresh Harijan, who was working with his colleagues at a nearby construction site. According to Harijan, they witnessed a car recklessly speeding and striking a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. Rushing to the accident scene, Harijan and his coworkers found the victim in an unconscious state. The victim, identified as Paresh, was a bachelor in his mid-forties, as confirmed by the police.
Chirag Lade, the accused, had been driving a car belonging to his father’s friend at the time of the incident. He was promptly charged with negligence and drunk driving. Lade was brought before a magistrate’s court but was later released on bail. In his statement to the police, the eyewitness described their response to the accident. “We lifted the victim into the car, and the youngster (Lade) drove him to Holy Spirit Hospital, Andheri (E), where the doctors pronounced the victim dead before admission,” he recounted.
