The constant threat of police raids and crackdowns has compelled drug traffickers to adopt innovative methods of smuggling narcotics into the city. In a strategic shift, they now employ women and children as decoys, delivering smaller quantities of drugs to customers to avoid detection.
The traffickers have abandoned transporting commercial quantities of drugs, opting instead to use women carrying smaller amounts, deceiving law enforcement.
This shift is evident from recent drug recoveries totalling 235 gm of heroin from four individuals, including two women, across various police stations in the district. Notably, Pooja from Ferozepur was found with 40 gm of heroin, Luvpret Singh of Faridkot had 110 gm seized in Kot Ise Khan, Ferozepur, Gurmeet Kaur alias Mito from Zira was caught with 50 gm, and Maqbool of Makhu had 45 gm.
With authorities intensifying efforts against drug trafficking, traffickers are adopting new strategies, such as involving more women, to circumvent police scrutiny.
In all instances of recovery, the four accused individuals have been arrested, and cases have been registered under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act. Ongoing investigations are placing special emphasis on tracing the backward and forward history to dismantle the drug supply chain.
