In a late-night confrontation, Noida police engaged in a gunfight with a notorious gangster, Sonu alias Mota, in the heart of the city on Wednesday. The 22-year-old, wanted in connection with six robbery and theft cases, was injured and taken into custody after the exchange.
The incident unfolded around midnight during a routine security check by Sector 58 police near Rabbit Park. Officers noticed Mota approaching on a motorcycle and signaled him to stop. He attempted to flee and opened fire on the officers, leading to a retaliatory response in which he sustained injuries. Mota was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police recovered a stolen motorcycle, five looted mobile phones, a pistol, and several rounds of ammunition from the suspect. “We spotted a suspicious biker near Rabbit Park during routine checks,” said ADCP Manish Mishra. “When we signaled him to halt, he fired shots, and our team responded in self-defense, injuring the suspect.”
Mota is known for his involvement in multiple theft and robbery incidents across Noida, and police are now searching for his two accomplices who managed to escape during the encounter. “This is a major step in our ongoing efforts to reduce criminal activity in the area,” ADCP Mishra added, noting that further investigations are underway to track down Mota’s associates and any additional stolen property.
Authorities have increased patrols in the region to deter crime and have encouraged residents to report suspicious activities. Police are confident that the operation has significantly weakened the gang’s influence in the area.
