Drake’s losing streak with sports bets just won’t seem to end! The rapper recently placed a large bet on Mike Tyson to defeat Jake Paul in their highly anticipated fight, but things didn’t go as planned. Despite the buildup, the fight between the 58-year-old boxing legend and 27-year-old YouTube star didn’t live up to the knockout excitement fans were expecting.
This marks the second time the Canadian rapper has suffered a major loss betting on Jake Paul. Previously, Drake wagered $1.2 million on Paul to defeat Tommy Fury, only to watch Fury become the first person to defeat Paul last year.
Drake’s Big Loss on Tyson vs. Paul
Once again, Drake’s infamous “curse” struck. The rapper shared on Twitter that he bet $355,000 on Tyson to beat Jake Paul in their fight, with odds of +285. If Tyson had won, Drake could’ve walked away with around $1 million. However, despite the fight being close and full of hype, Jake Paul won by unanimous decision, leaving Drake to deal with his loss.
The fight, which was originally set for the summer, was delayed due to Tyson’s health issues. When it finally took place, it attracted over 60 million viewers on Netflix. Although Tyson fought all eight rounds, each lasting two minutes, the 58-year-old appeared worn out against his much younger opponent. Tyson later took to Twitter and wrote, “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in the ring one last time.”
What Is the Drake Curse?
The “Drake Curse” has become a well-known joke in the sports world. Fans believe that any team or player Drake supports publicly is doomed to fail. Given Drake’s track record with bets, it’s hard to argue against this superstition. During the 2022 World Cup final, Drake bet $1 million on Argentina to defeat France in regular time, but the match ended in penalties, with Argentina eventually winning. This year, Drake placed $565,000 on Tyson Fury to defeat Oleksandr Usyk, but Usyk ended Fury’s undefeated streak instead. So, if Drake is betting on you, it might be time to worry.
Drake’s Betting Wins
Despite his bad luck with some bets, Drake has had a few wins as well. In February 2024, he placed a huge Bitcoin bet on the Kansas City Chiefs during their Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, which ended in a Chiefs victory. He also made $425,000 in April when Alex Poatan defeated UFC rival Jamahal Hill.
Drake wasn’t the only one to bet heavily on Tyson. UFC legend Conor McGregor also placed a $1 million bet on the fight but quietly deleted his posts after Tyson’s loss.
