President Joe Biden responded with a mix of humor and sarcasm to former President Donald Trump’s recent claims that the Democratic Party is plotting to remove him from the 2024 presidential race. The exchange occurred just before the Democratic National Convention was set to begin, adding tension to the upcoming election cycle.

Trump, known for his frequent social media posts, recently accused Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, of orchestrating what he called “the first-ever coup in America” to remove him from the race. He claimed on Truth Social that Biden had been informed of losing to Trump and was then “fired” from his candidacy.

During a press event on August 19, just hours before the convention started, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked Biden about Trump’s accusations. With a grin, Biden responded by questioning Trump’s “stability,” dismissing the former president’s claims as unfounded.

Unfazed by Biden’s light-hearted retort, Trump persisted in his attacks, targeting Harris by calling her a “Marxist,” “communist,” and a “STONE COLD LOSER.” He warned that if Harris were to succeed Biden, the U.S. would become a “Communist, Crime Ridden Garbage Dump.”

These remarks followed Biden’s announcement in late July that he would step back from his campaign and endorse Harris as his successor. Biden, who has faced increasing concerns about his health and age, described his decision as an act of patriotism, stating it was time to “pass the torch to a new generation.”

Biden’s decision has elicited varied reactions but has not deterred Trump from portraying it as part of a larger conspiracy against him. Trump’s dramatic and often exaggerated claims continue to energize his supporters while raising questions about his mental fitness—a point Biden subtly referenced in his response.

As the Democratic National Convention progresses, the election landscape is set to shift. With Harris now the Democratic nominee, she faces the task of uniting the party and appealing to voters amid a polarized political climate. Meanwhile, Trump’s relentless attacks suggest a campaign strategy focused on discrediting his opponents and undermining the election process.

With Biden stepping back, the 2024 race will be marked by new dynamics, as Harris takes a central role and Trump persists in his bid to return to the White House, employing his characteristic style of political drama.
