DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has demanded a statement from the Centre regarding the recent security breach in the Parliament. She emphasized that the incident, where individuals breached security by intruding and protesting inside the Parliament, highlights a serious security lapse. Kanimozhi expressed concerns about the safety of Parliament members, stating that the new Parliament building’s security might be compromised. She called for a clarification from the Union government, citing a precedent when a statement was issued by the then-Home Minister LK Advani after the 2001 Parliament attack.
Kanimozhi’s demand comes amid the ongoing war of words between the Treasury and the Opposition regarding the security breach. Thirteen Congress members, along with Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, were suspended for the remainder of the Winter Session in connection with the incident. Kanimozhi participated in a relief material distribution event for flood-affected people in Chennai after cyclone ‘Michaung.’
The security breach in Parliament has raised concerns about the vulnerability of the country’s legislative institutions and the need for robust security measures.
