Chetan Singh, a dismissed RPF constable charged with the murder of his senior and three passengers on a Jaipur-Mumbai train in July, has filed for bail before the Dindoshi sessions court.
The plea, submitted through lawyers Amit Mishra and Pankaj Ghildiyal, asserts that Singh is suffering from mental illness, specifically mentioning symptoms of “white matter disease,” a condition linked to brain white matter damage due to reduced blood flow.
The plea highlights Singh’s claimed mental health struggles over the past few years, known to his family. The court has instructed the prosecution to respond to the plea, with a hearing scheduled for December 1.
In the early hours of July 31, Singh allegedly shot and killed three passengers and an assistant sub-inspector. The victims were identified as Tikaram Meena, Asgar Ali Abbas, Abdul Kader Bhanpurwala, and Syed Saifuddin. Singh faces charges not only related to the murders but also includes a section concerning the promotion of enmity between different religious groups.
The police assert that the murders had a communal nature. While Singh’s family cites mental health issues, the RPF denies having any prior knowledge of such concerns.
