Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapruhave had the most amazing and one of a kind journey in the Indian music industry. They have directed and produced songs and videos with practically every musical legend of the country from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle to Jagjit Singh. And have also worked with Arijit Singh, Neha Kakkar and many more.
With more than two decades of musical success, over 100 songs, and directing and producing ‘Vaaste’, with the record of one billion views on YouTube, the director duo has established musical supremacy of some kind.
Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru spoke exclusively with The Daily Guardian and talked about their journey, and upcoming projects.
How has the journey been in terms of collaborating with some of the great legends in the music industry?
It has been a satisfying and enriching journey, as newcomers you never anticipate working with legends in the very start of the career. It has been filled with learning experiences, we have covered most of the genres. We have worked with Lata ji, Jagjit ji as well as with Armaan Malik, Darshan Raval and Neha Kakkar, all of them are super talented.
What has been your biggest takeaway?
The biggest takeaway is: have you ever created anything that will never be created again in history. The one and the only song ‘Nayan’ which was sung by Asha Bhosale ji, Lata Mangeshkar Ji and Jagjit Singh ji will never be seen again and that made history. How different is directing a video of a song and a film? Which one you both prefer?
For the song video we hear the song first and whatever comes in our mind we visualise it keeping in mind the song and casting is done according to who will fit into the role best. Talking about films, the character is bound with a circle.
Any favourite movie or song directed by you?
‘Vaaste’ is the favourite song as it has been our comeback song, The clothes worn by Dhvani Bhanushali in the song is from Radhika’s wardrobe and the actor wearing the jumper is from my (Vinay) wardrobe. The song, featuring five newcomers and without proper resources, has crossed one billion views.
What are your upcoming projects?
We are lucky to have Bhushan Kumarji as our support, the movie with Bhushanji contains 5-6 songs, it is a youth-based movie and will go on floors in Nov 2021.
