Christian Dior’s India-inspired pre-fall 2023 show is set to take place in Mumbai, with celebrities adding to the glamour of the event. The fashion show celebrates the richness of Indian textiles, and will be the first official calendar display by a prominent European luxury brand in India. The show is taking place against the backdrop of the iconic Gateway of India, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s artistic director of women’s collections, collaborated with Mumbai-based atelier Chanakya School of Craft to create the ready-to-wear collection.
Pre-fall fashion refers to small capsule collections released by designers just ahead of the fall fashion shows, arriving in stores in early summer. The Pre-fall collection is typically unveiled in a less formal, smaller-scale runway show than the primary Fall and Spring Fashion Week shows.
Maria Grazia Chiuri expressed her gratitude for India’s warm welcome on Instagram, thanking Karishma Swali, the CEO of Chanakya School of Craft, and Nehal Shah, for more than 30 years of collaboration. She also shared her excitement after meeting veteran beauty Rekha, calling it a true honour.
Karishma Swali shared on her Instagram her deep honour and joy at collaborating with Maria Grazia Chiuri and Dior, having met more than 25 years ago and discovering their shared love for excellence in hand craftsmanship. Together, they dreamt of preserving artisanal legacies and women’s emancipation, resulting in the Chanakya School of Craft foundation. The Dior Fall 2023 show in Mumbai is a coming together of their shared values and commitment to craft and women’s empowerment, and Karishma expressed her gratitude to Maria Grazia Chiuri and Dior.
