Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed strong confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi securing a third consecutive term from the Varanasi parliamentary seat, which will vote on June 1 in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections. “PM Modi’s impressive campaign in Varanasi has energized people across the country,” Maurya stated on Tuesday, ahead of the Prime Minister filing his nomination papers in the temple town.
“Today, the Prime Minister sought the blessings of Baba Vishwanath and Kaal Bhairav. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, there will be development, poverty alleviation, and women’s empowerment,” Keshav Prasad Maurya stated while speaking to ANI. He urged people to trust in Modi, calling him the “creator of the new age” and adding, “Such a leader comes to earth only once.”
Maurya expressed strong confidence that Narendra Modi will secure a third consecutive term as Prime Minister and that the BJP will win all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, he took a jab at Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, predicting that Yadav’s party, part of the opposition INDIA bloc, would lose all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, including their stronghold in Kannauj.
Maurya stated that despite the support of Congress and the Trinamool Congress, both members of the INDIA grouping, the Samajwadi Party (SP) would not be able to win seats in Uttar Pradesh.
After filing his nomination, Prime Minister Modi took to the social media platform X to express his gratitude, stating it was an “honor” to serve the people of Varanasi. “Filed my nomination papers as a candidate for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. It is an honor to serve the people of this historic seat. With the blessings of the people, there have been remarkable achievements over the last decade. This pace of work will get even faster in the times to come,” PM Modi posted on X.
A total of 25 NDA leaders attended the Prime Minister’s nomination filing today. On Monday, he held a roadshow in Varanasi. The Varanasi seat comprises five Assembly segments: Rohaniya, Varanasi North, Varanasi South, Varanasi Cantt, and Sevapuri. Varanasi is a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and PM Modi, making it a highly anticipated contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
PM Modi previously won the Varanasi seat in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections with significant majorities. In this election, the Congress has fielded Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai against PM Modi in Varanasi. This marks the third time Ajay Rai will contest against PM Modi in the Lok Sabha elections.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi won the seat with over 674,664 votes, securing a vote share of 63.6 percent. In 2014, PM Modi contested two Lok Sabha seats—Gujarat’s Vadodara and Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi.
