Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal credited the increase in Delhi’s per capita income to innovative and forward-looking measures implemented during his nine-year leadership.
The Chief Minister took to Official X handle and wrote, “This is a huge increase in per capita income in any state in any single year. It has been achieved by the hard work of 2 cr Delhiites and Del govt working together day and night. Many innovative and forward-looking steps have been taken in the last nine years…But much more needs to be done.”
Atishi, the Planning Minister of Delhi, on Saturday, announced that despite confronting numerous challenges, the AAP government in 2023 successfully established new benchmarks in public services. While introducing the ‘Statistical Handbook-2023,’ meticulously crafted by the Department of Economics and Statistics, Atishi emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to people’s welfare.
This dedication resulted in an outstanding achievement—a remarkable increase of over 150% in per capita income compared to the national average. Furthermore, the government set the minimum wages for both skilled and unskilled workers, positioning them as the highest in the country.
In her discussion about public transport, Atishi highlighted Delhi’s impressive fleet of over 7,200 buses operating under the DTC and cluster bus scheme, including a notable 1,300 electric buses.
She underscored the Kejriwal government’s continuous efforts to augment public transportation services, leading to a substantial increase in daily commuters, with over 41 lakh people availing themselves of DTC and cluster buses in 2023.
Atishi proudly pointed out Delhi’s pioneering role in the electric vehicle revolution, with the number of electric buses reaching 1,300—a feat surpassing all other states. Despite the adversities posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi’s bus ridership remarkably rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, witnessing an average daily ridership of nearly 25 lakh passengers during the fiscal year 2021-22.
Turning to the power sector, Atishi highlighted the addition of nearly 2.8 lakh new electricity consumers in 2023. She applauded the Kejriwal government for ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply despite a surge in demand, resulting in a consumption increase of 859 million units during 2023.
Additionally, over 3.4 crore zero electricity bills were generated in the last fiscal year. Furthermore, the piped water network experienced significant growth, welcoming over one lakh new consumers in 2023. These achievements collectively reflect the government’s steadfast commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Delhi residents.
The Delhi Statistical Handbook-2023 is published by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics and it contains data relating to various socio-economic parameters of Delhi.
