Congress is in persistent chaos and turmoil from quite some time now. Talking about the situation in Delhi the picture doesn’t appear any better.
The situation has become grim after the appointment of Punjab in-charge Devendra Yadav the interim president of Delhi. It is quite ironical that while Devendra Yadav shall be expected to support Kejriwal in Delhi, the same person would rally against AAP in Punjab.
The decision of the high command to give responsibility to Yadav is also surprising. Nevertheless, the reason is apparent reason is that Congress has decided to form an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. Somehow, Congress’s decision to form an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi could lead to a similar outcome as seen in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where the party’s influence diminishes in favor of smaller parties.
This alliance may result in the Congress losing its individual identity and becoming dependent on smaller allies. Consequently, many leaders from the Delhi Congress might consider joining the BJP due to fears that the party won’t survive after aligning with AAP, especially with assembly elections looming early next year.
One can well imagine, that the situation is so whimsical that Arvindra Singh Lovely, who resigned from the post of Delhi Pradesh Congress President, is waiting for the party to expel him, so that he can take an independent decision with his supporters. Else, he like many other leaders might leave the party and join BJP again with his supporters. He has the ability to decide, but he hasn’t made any decision yet.
Rajkumar Chauhan initiated the trend of quitting Congress by leaving the party.
Today, former MLA Naseeb Singh and Neeraj Basoya parted ways with the party, and this trend is expected to escalate in the upcoming days. There are indications that many leaders, particularly those closely associated with former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, may resign from the Congress.
The Aam Aadmi Party is widely blamed for undermining the Congress in Delhi and denting its voter base, tarnishing the party’s image nationwide. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal played a pivotal role in this downfall.
Additionally, it was the Congress that initially filed corruption complaints against Kejriwal, leading to subsequent actions taken against him. Despite protests led by party figures like national treasurer Ajay Maken, Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba, and former state president Anil Choudhary, the Congress high command entered into a controversial agreement with AAP, triggering widespread criticism and ridicule. This alliance, particularly the peculiar partnership in Delhi, is met with skepticism, especially considering the political dynamics where allies in Delhi are adversaries in Punjab.
Although AAP may gain from this compromise in Delhi, the Congress stands to lose. The fear among Delhi Congress members is palpable, as they worry that continuing the alliance post-Lok Sabha elections will leave them with nothing. This apprehension mirrors the scenario in Uttar Pradesh, where disillusioned members left the Congress to join other parties, including the BJP.
The resignation of Lovely marks the beginning of this trend. If the Congress fails to make significant gains in Punjab during the Lok Sabha elections, the high command may be compelled to forge an alliance with AAP there as well.
