NSUI protests BJP MP’s call for Constitutional amendments

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) protested against BJP MP Anant Kumar Hegde’s contentious call for changes to the Indian Constitution. The protest was led by NSUI National President Varun Choudhary.

Choudhary, while addressing the crowd, criticised the BJP and RSS, accusing them of hypocrisy and disrespect towards the nation’s founding fathers, who shaped the Constitution. He stated, “Our Constitution, which guarantees equal rights and freedom of speech to all, is under threat. We stand united in our resolve to protect its integrity against any alterations that betray its spirit.”

The demonstration saw the symbolic burning of a half pant, an item associated with the RSS, by NSUI. This act was meant to highlight the NSUI’s commitment to defending the foundational principles of the Constitution, said a protestor.

The protest witnessed the participation of prominent NSUI members, including Delhi President Kunal Sherawat, former DUSU Secretary Ashish Lamba, National Coordinator Akash Choudhary, and hundreds of NSUI activists. The NSUI demands the immediate expulsion of MP Hegde from the BJP and the filing of an anti-national case against him, reflecting their stance against any undermining of constitutional values.
