New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Vikas Kumar on Friday said the national capital will get three new Metro corridors by the end of this year as part of Phase 4 expansion works.

The upcoming corridors include the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg extension of the Magenta Line, the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor and the Majlis Park–Maujpur extension of the Pink Line.

In an interview with PTI, Kumar said the remaining priority Phase 4 corridors are targeted for commissioning by December 2026.

He also said three additional corridors under Phase 4 — the Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor, the Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block corridor and the Rithala–Narela–Nathupur extension — have recently received approval and are expected to be completed around 2029, subject to approvals, land acquisition and construction progress.

On the proposed Phase 5 expansion, Kumar said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has fixed a 2028 target for the RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha, Aerocity–IGD Airport Terminal 1 and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj corridors under Phase 5(A).

He added that detailed project reports for seven more corridors under Phase 5(B) have been prepared and submitted to the Centre. These include Dhansa Bus Stand–Nangloi, Central Secretariat–Kishangarh, Samaypur Badli–Narela DDA Sports Complex, Kirti Nagar–Palam, Jor Bagh–Mithapur, Mayur Vihar Phase 3–Shastri Park and Keshav Puram–Rohini Sector 34.

According to Kumar, the proposed Phase 5(B) network will cover nearly 97.158 kilometres across Delhi and focus largely on areas that currently lack Metro connectivity.

“It is a big project and it is mostly covering areas which have not been touched so far. Some alternative routes and multiple interchanges are also being planned,” he said.

Kumar, however, clarified that the proposal remains at the planning stage and the final alignments will depend on government approvals.

The expansion aims to improve connectivity in underserved areas, strengthen interchange facilities and reduce congestion and travel time across Delhi-NCR.

Under Phase 4, two stretches have already been opened for commuters — the Janakpuri West–Krishna Park Extension section of the Magenta Line in January 2025 and the Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor of the Pink Line in March 2026.

Another stretch connecting Majlis Park and Deepali Chowk on the Magenta Line has also been completed.

The Krishna Park Extension–RK Ashram Marg section of the Magenta Line and the Tughlakabad–Delhi Aerocity corridor of the Golden Line are among the remaining priority stretches expected to be completed by December this year.

Officials said the Magenta Line extension will improve east-west connectivity across Delhi, while the Golden Line will strengthen links between south Delhi, the airport region and other major urban centres.
