Delhi Police Cyber Cell busts sextortion ring in Mewat, nabs two

The Delhi Police Cyber Cell successfully dismantled a sextortion racket operating in the Mewat region, leading to the arrest of Amir Khan (26) and Mehfuz (39). The investigation unfolded after a 71-year-old doctor filed a complaint about being extorted following a WhatsApp video call.

The victim claimed the gang recorded him in a compromising position during the call and extorted money, threatening to expose the video on social media. Despite extracting 8.6 lakh rupees, the gang persistently harassed the victim for more funds.
The police traced the extorted money to various bank accounts in Haryana, Punjab, and Maharashtra.

Notably, these accounts were digitally opened solely for receiving cheated money, bypassing proper KYC verification. The investigative team acquired call detail records (CDR) and internet protocol detail records (IPDR) of the suspected mobile numbers used by the gang, leading them to the Mewat area in District Deegh, Rajasthan, where the arrests were made. Five smartphones, two keypad phones, and 11 SIM cards used in the sextortion racket were recovered. The original device used to record the victim’s video and the associated SIM card were also retrieved. A mobile phone seized from Aamir Khan contained two objectionable videos of the victim. During the accused’s five-day police custody remand, authorities are extracting information on other involved co-accused persons and the crime’s modus operandi.

Three additional experienced sextortion criminals from the Mewat village were identified. The gang’s connections to 25 other cyber fraud cases and complaints across Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, including four from Delhi, have surfaced.
As a result, 25 new probable victims of this nationwide gang have been identified.
