New Delhi:

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has issued fresh eviction notices to all residents of Yamuna Bazar, directing them to vacate the area within 15 days as it falls under the ecologically sensitive O-Zone category of the Yamuna floodplains.

The fresh notices, dated May 15, were pasted across the area following an earlier notice issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). While the May 5 notice had covered around 310 residential structures, the latest directive extends to the entire Yamuna Bazar area.

According to the notice, the land forms part of the Yamuna river floodplain and must remain free from encroachments in compliance with planning regulations, directions of the Delhi High Court and repeated orders of the National Green Tribunal regarding protection and restoration of the floodplain ecosystem.

“The said land is part of the Yamuna river floodplain, which is an ecologically sensitive zone, and is required to be kept free from encroachment,” the notice stated.

Unlike the earlier DDMA notices, the latest DDA communication also provides residents seven days to submit any representations or objections before the authority’s land management office.

The DDA has directed residents to voluntarily vacate government land and remove all temporary or permanent structures and belongings within 15 days from the date of issuance of the notice.

It further warned that all unauthorised occupation must stop immediately and that failure to comply would invite coercive action, including demolition and removal of structures without any further notice, at the occupants’ own risk and cost.

Earlier, the DDMA had stated that the Yamuna Bazar area gets inundated during annual floods of the Yamuna river, posing a serious threat to human life, livestock and property.

The eviction exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by authorities to clear encroachments from the Yamuna floodplains and enforce environmental regulations aimed at restoring the river ecosystem.
