Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav criticized both the BJP and AAP governments for politicizing water scarcity issues rather than addressing them. He stated, “Both the BJP and AAP have abandoned the people of Delhi to rely on rain for their potable water needs. The water pipes have been dry for weeks, while the BJP and AAP engage in public disputes and theatrics instead of resolving the water crisis.”
Yadav said Delhi Water Minister Atishi’s so-called dharna to get water from Haryana was only a public stunt, and the BJP fished in troubled waters to heighten the water crisis. He added Aam Adami Party came to power by promising free power and water to the people, and if the Delhi government was solely depending on water from Harayna to supply free water to a section of Delhiites, Kejriwal’s free water scheme was a big sham. “Alone free water, people were getting no water at all, and the poor have been forced to spend Rs 100 daily to buy drinking water bottles. I wondered what the gains were for the people of Delhi by Atishi’s ‘Jal Satyagrah’ other than her own gain of some cheap publicity by cashing in on the misery of the people,” said Devender Yadav.
Further He accused BJP MPs for not finding solutions for water crisis. He said, People of Delhi elected seven BJP MPs to Lok Sabha hoping that they would come to the aid of Delhiites during crisis situations, but the BJP MPs too did not play any role in solving the water crisis by taking up the issue with the BJP-led central government. “It was a matter of great shame that the BJP government at the Centre has always let down the people of Delhi whenever they confronted any major problem, like the water crisis, water logging, air and water pollution, and the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Yadav.
