‘Arvind Kejriwal Will Also Walk Out Soon’: Sisodia After Tihar Jail Release

Former Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who was released from Tihar Jail today, credited Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution for his release and expressed confidence that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also be released soon.

In a speech to party workers following his release, Sisodia said, “I have come out of jail due to your love, God’s blessings, and the power of truth. Most importantly, it’s the dream of Babasaheb that if any dictatorial government puts Opposition leaders behind bars using oppressive laws, the Constitution will protect them. I assure you that with the power of the Constitution, Arvind Kejriwal will also be released.”

Sisodia had been in jail for nearly 18 months without a trial. Upon his release, he cheered, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Inquilab Zindabad!”

He added, “Since the order came this morning, I have felt deeply indebted to Babasaheb. I don’t know how I can repay this debt.”

Sisodia also greeted party leaders and workers who had gathered outside Tihar Jail to welcome him.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia on Friday in the excise policy irregularities case. The bench of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan issued the order, which includes conditions such as surrendering his passport and not influencing witnesses. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju raised concerns about potential witness tampering.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February 2023 for alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of misconduct. According to the CBI, Sisodia played a central role in the alleged conspiracy and was heavily involved in both the formulation and implementation of the policy to achieve its objectives.
