The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday presented a memorandum to the Director of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), urging strict adherence to safety regulations amidst the rising bus accidents in Delhi and the enforcement of traffic safety rules for the protection of passengers.

It is known that on Wednesday, a person lost his life after being run over by a DTC bus near the Delhi University Metro Station. The incident occurred due to the bus driver veering away from the designated lane, highlighting the need for immediate action to prevent such occurrences. Expressing concern over this issue, the ABVP staged a vigorous protest outside the Delhi Transport headquarters on Thursday, demanding immediate consideration of their demands by the management of the Delhi Transport Corporation.

In their memorandum, the ABVP emphasized ensuring that buses operate within their designated lanes, parking of buses only at bus stands, regular counseling of bus drivers, timely payment of drivers’ monthly wages, provision of adequate compensation to the families of deceased victims crushed or run over by buses, and implementation of measures to prevent such incidents.

Harsh Atri, the state minister of ABVP Delhi, stated that the number of accidents involving DTC buses on Delhi roads has increased. Consequently, DTC buses violating regulations have proven fatal for Delhi residents. Just on April 24th, a DTC bus near the University Metro Station ran over a person, leading to their tragic demise.

Taking cognizance of this matter, we have today staged a robust protest outside the Delhi Transport Corporation headquarters, submitting a memorandum and demanding immediate consideration of our demands.
