The police in Delhi are able to catch vehicle thieves with the use of automated number plate recognition (ANPR) camera data analysis.

A few times at a certain place, an ANPR camera was used to record the licence plate of a stolen car. The police squad set a trap based on this knowledge, and two crooks were caught.

Devesh Kumar Mahla, DCP, outer-north, said, “An intensive drive to curb motor vehicle theft and nab the criminals has been launched in the outer-north district. In this series, police laid traps near JJ Colony, Bawana, and two people on a motorcycle were apprehended after a short chase.”

Afsar and Kishan Kumar were named as the defendants. The police took their bicycle. It was discovered that the motorcycle was stolen during verification.

Mahla further said, “Interrogation revealed that both the accused were listed criminals. Therefore, sustained interrogation was carried out, which led to the recovery of four more stolen vehicles at the instance of accused persons.”
