The Delhi High Court on Friday strongly criticised the Delhi Forest Department for issuing stereotypical orders that permit the cutting of trees in the national capital. The court questioned whether such actions were tantamount to subjecting the residents to gas chambers, emphasising the need for thoughtful consideration and sensitivity.

Justice Jasmeet Singh, presiding over the bench, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the nonchalant approach of the Delhi Forest Department and its officials. He stressed, “We are endeavouring to make you more aware, but it seems that our message is not getting through. This represents a failure to fulfil your duties, a blatant disregard for court orders, and it is ultimately your responsibility for the current predicament faced by the citizens of Delhi.”

The court further commented that such orders have contributed to alarming levels of air pollution in the city, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching distressing levels. These observations were made during a hearing on Friday in response to a petition seeking contempt proceedings.
