The Delhi High Court issued notice to the Central Government and the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on a new batch of petitions filed on behalf of children with rare diseases on Tuesday.
The petitions were filed by the children’s families in order to obtain guidance on treatment costs that are beyond their means. The Centre and AIIMS have been served with a notice from Justice Prathiba M Singh.
The respondents’ counsels accepted the notice. On April 13, the matter will be heard alongside other related matters. These petitions were filed by the affected children’s parents and family members through advocates Ashok Agarwal and Kumar Utkarsh.
One of the petitioners has requested that the respondents provide free medical treatment to the petitioner’s child suffering from a rare genetic disease known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) exon 49-52 deletion, as the treatment is expensive and beyond the petitioner’s parents’ financial means.
