Delhi HC Hosts Workshop To Sensitize Legal Professionals On Deaf-Blindness

The Delhi High Court’s Accessibility Committee organized a workshop on Monday to raise awareness among legal professionals about Deaf-Blindness. The event, held at the High Court of Delhi, was chaired by Justice Rajiv Shakdher.

Deaf-blindness is an exceptionally rare disability characterized by a simultaneous impairment of both vision and hearing.

The workshop was led by Zamir Dhale, who is deaf-blind and the founder of SEDB India. He was supported by his colleague, Lion Sunil Abbas. The session saw the participation of judicial officers, advocates, and court officials.

During the workshop, Dhale demonstrated how individuals, once they learn tactile sign communication, can effectively interact with people who are deaf-blind. He also shared his personal experiences and the challenges he has encountered throughout his life.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher attended the event and engaged with Zamir Dhale, Lion Sunil Abbas, and the tactile sign interpreters who were present.

The workshop began with a welcome address by Joint Registrar (Judicial) Jay Thareja. Rahul Bajaj, a visually impaired advocate and member of the Delhi High Court’s Accessibility Committee, also spoke at the event and expressed gratitude to the participants with a vote of thanks.
