Cold Wave Grips the City
Delhi woke up to thick fog and chilly conditions on Friday as a cold wave affected the city. The minimum temperature dropped to 7°C, and the fog covered several parts of Delhi, making it difficult for people to commute.
Night Shelters in High Demand
As temperatures decreased, people in areas like Yamuna Bazar and New Delhi Railway Station took refuge in night shelters for warmth. These shelters provided much-needed relief from the cold and fog.
Air Quality in ‘Severe’ Category
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi remained dangerously high. At 8 AM, the AQI measured 434, placing it in the ‘severe’ category. Several areas in the city, including RK Puram (AQI 453), Rohini (452), Shadipur (436), and Vivek Vihar (451), recorded hazardous air pollution levels.

- 0-50: Good
- 51-100: Satisfactory
- 101-200: Moderate
- 201-300: Poor
- 301-400: Very Poor

Cold Wave Extends Across North India
The cold wave affected much of North India, with temperatures continuing to dip. The IMD issued warnings for cold to severe cold wave conditions in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Dense fog is expected to persist in isolated areas of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Visibility and Weather Warnings
On Thursday, Delhi’s visibility was reduced to just 250 meters due to the cold wave. The IMD warned of cold wave conditions at several places, including frost formation in Himachal Pradesh.
