At a coaching center in Delhi, three UPSC aspirants lost their lives due to flooding after heavy rains. The incident occurred at Rau’s IAS Study Centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, where the basement, used as a classroom, was inundated. The Delhi Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the incident, including the SUV driver and the center’s owner.

According to DCP (Central) M Harshvardhan, the driver of a Force Gurkha SUV has been taken into custody. The driver, whose actions were captured on CCTV, was seen driving at high speed through a waterlogged street, contributing to the damage of the center’s gate. Harshvardhan explained, “Negligence has been established on the part of the arrested driver. He was driving the vehicle very fast, due to which the gate of the coaching centre broke. Before he hit the building gate, a street vendor had tried to stop him.”

The damage caused by the SUV allowed rainwater to rush into the basement of the coaching center, leading to severe flooding. Tragically, three students—Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala—drowned in the rising waters.

The police have also arrested five other individuals, including the owners of the basement space where the center operated. The center’s owner, Abhishek Gupta, and its coordinator have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, along with other offenses.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full extent of negligence and responsibility in this unfortunate event.
