The Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh have moved the Gujarat High Court wherein seeking the interim stay on proceedings in a criminal defamation complaint which is filed by the Gujarat University till the disposal of their revision plea moved challenging the Metropolitan order of court challenging the issue of summons in the session court.
The bench comprising of Justice Samir J. Dave is likely to hear the plea on August 11, 2023.
Therefore, the court in the case observed that the metropolitan court in Ahmedabad had earlier summoned the duo for August 11 in the defamation case which is being filed by the Gujarat University over theirKejriwal And Singh, wherein it is alleged the derogatory statements made in connection with the controversy with regards to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s academic degree.
The court in the case noted that the City Civil and Session Court Ahmedabad rejected the plea moved by them to stay the proceedings in the trial pending the disposal of their revision plea on August 05, 2023.
The court while challenging the order stated that both the AAP leaders have now approached the Gujarat High Court, wherein they also prayed for the direction of the court for an expeditious hearing of the revision plea.
It has also been stated by the said court that in the criminal complaint moved by the Gujarat University, through its Registrar Dr Piyush M.Patel under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code,1860, wherein the alleged statements of Kejriwal and Singh have been referred to, thus, accusing them of making sarcastic and the defamatory statements in press conferences and on Twitter handles wherein it targeted the university over the degree of Modi.
