In light of the ongoing rain in the national capital, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, moderate to heavy rain continued to pound numerous portions of the city and its surrounding areas, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting high-intensity rains over the National Capital for the next two days.

On Saturday, heavy rain battered Delhi, creating flooding in various sections of the national capital. Several places, including Pragati Maidan, Nehru Nagar, Panchsheel Marg, Kalkaji, and ITO, became inundated, limiting traffic movement.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah called with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and received an update on the Amarnath Yatra, which had been halted due to severe rains.

The annual Amarnath Yatra was halted for the third day in a row on Sunday due to inclement weather in Jammu & Kashmir. Due to the shutdown of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, authorities stopped a group of worshippers at the Jammu Base Camp on Sunday.

According to officials, 6,000 Amarnath Yatra passengers were trapped at Ramban following the suspension of the Yatra.

Since the start of the Yatra on July 1, at least 67,566 pilgrims have visited the Amarnath cave shrine. On July 5, around 18,354 pilgrims left for the Amarnath cave shrine from both the Baltal base camp and the Nunwan base camp to do the darshan. The 62-day Shri Amarnath Yatra will end on August 31, 2023.
