International Yoga Day is celebrated each year on June 21 and this year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be celebrating this occasion in Tamil Nadu. He will be arriving in Tamil Nadu on June 20 and a visit to Arichal node near Dhanushkodi, Ramanathapuram, has been scheduled for the day. The Defence Minister will reach Ramanathapuram by a private helicopter on Thursday evening ahead of International Yoga Day.
The senior BJP leader is then expected to visit and inspect the Coast Guard camp in Mandapam and the INS Parundu naval air station located near Uchipuli, Ramanathapuram. On June 21, Friday, at 6 am he will attend the International Yoda Day programme. The yoga session at Dhanushkodi will reportedly be attended by officials from the Coast Guard, the Air Force, the Navy, and the Marine Police. The Ramanathapuram Collector and SP have also been invited to the yoga day event.
In 2023, Rajnath Singh celebrated International Yoga Day in Kochi. He and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar performed yoga with the personnel of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard onboard indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on June 21, 2023. Addressing over 900 personnel, which included 120 newly recruited ‘Agniveers’, the Defence Minister told them to include yoga in their daily routine for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. It involves zero investment, while providing incredible profits, he added.
The International Day of Yoga, established by the United Nations on 21 June, focuses on physical health benefits, mental well-being, and the ancient practice of yoga. Every year, this ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India, is celebrated with a theme.
This year’s theme is yoga for self and society.
