Leading Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala did not appear in the Chandigarh District Court today, after which the counsel of the other party requested the court to send an alternative summons against the singer. Moosewala had earlier also refused to accept the court summons.
On February 17, Civil Judge Randeep Kumar had issued notice to Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu alias Sidhu Moosewala on a civil suit filed by advocate Sunil Kumar Mallan for allegedly tarnishing the image of lawyers and the legal profession.
Apart from Moosewala, notices have also been issued to 10 other defendants, including the Hungama Channel and YouTube channel named in the lawsuit. Advocate Mallan said that he urged the court to release summons through email and WhatsApp and also urged the court to place a proclamation at Moosewala’s home.
The court then directed the defense to file its reply on March 2. Mossewala, the Congress candidate from Mansa for Assembly elections 2022 was to file his reply in the court today. But neither his counsel nor him appeared before the court.
The lawsuit was filed against Moosewala’s new song “Sanju” for the alleged defamation of the judiciary and the legal profession.
