Following the Haryana Assembly Election 2024 results, Congress leader Deepender Hooda did not hold back from expressing his disappointment with his party’s performance. In a blunt assessment, Hooda remarked that Congress’s “over-enthusiasm” cost them dearly, reflecting deeper internal conflicts that have been pulling the party back from victory not only in Haryana but in various states across India.

Hooda explained how Congress came close to tasting victory but failed to secure it due to internal strife and mismanagement. “Congress reached the water but failed to quench its thirst,” he said, using a metaphor to emphasize the party’s proximity to success but inability to capitalize on it. According to him, a major reason for this shortcoming has been the party’s failure to effectively manage its relationships with allies, particularly underestimating the importance of coalition dynamics in electoral strategies.

Hooda was particularly critical of Congress’s inability to manage its internal egos, stating, “The burden of arrogance is the heaviest of all, and it’s not something one can carry for too long.” His statement indicates that internal leadership struggles within Congress have continued to undermine the party’s chances at victory, contributing to its setbacks even in favorable political environments.

Despite the negative results, Hooda also pointed out that the political tide in Haryana still offers a glimmer of hope for Congress. He believes that if the party addresses its internal issues and forms stronger coalitions, it can still regain its footing in future elections. However, as the 2024 election results show, Congress needs significant introspection and realignment to stay competitive in a rapidly changing political landscape dominated by BJP’s steady rise.

In contrast to the Congress’s struggles, the BJP, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, has managed to secure a remarkable third consecutive victory in Haryana. This success adds further pressure on Congress to reevaluate its strategies not just in Haryana but across the country. Hooda’s critique is not just a reflection of the results, but a warning that unless Congress resolves its internal conflicts and coalition strategies, the party may continue to falter on the national stage.
