During the Wednesday review of rural development initiatives, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain directed officials from the rural development and Panchayat Department to accelerate the completion of 129 playgrounds in the district. Emphasizing the Chief Minister’s priority agenda to provide rural youths with accessible playgrounds, she urged dedicated and diligent implementation within the stipulated timeframe.

DC Aashika Jain outlined specific targets for playground construction in different blocks, with Derabassi aiming for 36 playgrounds, Kharar targeting 26, Majri Block planning 38, and Mohali block striving for 29. A total budget of Rs 386.94 lakh has been allocated for the project, and while commending the completion of 30 playgrounds, she instructed Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) to expedite the remaining work.
Reviewing the Saanjha Jal Talab project across all blocks, she praised Derabassi block for completing all 21 and instructed others to finish the remaining 20 out of the total 80.

Providing updates on MGNREGA, she noted that 70 percent of the fixed expenditure target of Rs 3522 lakh for the current fiscal year has been achieved. Additionally, against the target of generating 770,000 Mandays, 565,815 Mandays have been generated, contributing to 80 percent completion.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, all 336 villages in the district have been declared ODF plus villages. Moving forward, 33 villages have been earmarked for solid waste management, while 323 are designated for liquid waste management.
In the context of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin), against the target of 500 beneficiaries, 385 have received all three installments.
DC Aashika Jain also highlighted that 34.5 acres of gram panchayat land have been identified for agro-forestry.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary, SDMs Himanshu Mahajan, Chandrajyoti Singh, Gurmandar Singh, AC (UT) Davy Goyal, and DDPO Amarinder Pal Singh Chauhan.
