In a significant move to expand its footprint in South India, home-grown FMCG giant Dabur India announced plans to establish a ₹400-crore manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district. This marks the company’s first manufacturing facility in the southern region of the country.

Investment and MoU Details

The announcement came after Dabur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday. The MoU outlines a phased investment approach, starting with ₹135 crore in Phase 1, and scaling up to ₹400 crore over the next five years. The plant will be located in the SIPCOT Food Park in Tindivanam, Villupuram district.

Boost to Local Economy and Job Creation

State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa highlighted that this investment will not only strengthen Dabur’s market presence in South India but also create over 250 jobs in the region. The new facility is expected to open up opportunities for local farmers in the nearby Delta region, allowing them to supply agro-produce for processing at the plant.

“Welcome to Tamil Nadu, Dabur India! In the presence of Honourable Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Dabur signed an MoU with the state for setting up their first-ever South India plant,” Minister Rajaa announced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Strategic Importance of the Plant

Dabur’s decision to invest in Tamil Nadu underscores the state’s thriving industrial ecosystem and the availability of a skilled workforce. “This investment will allow us to better serve the growing demand for our products in South India and strengthen our market presence in the region,” said Dabur India CEO Mohit Malhotra. He added that the company looks forward to contributing to Tamil Nadu’s economic development by creating jobs and collaborating with local vendors and suppliers.

Focus on Sustainable Operations

The new facility will be designed with a focus on energy conservation in both its construction and operations. Once operational, it will produce a wide range of Ayurvedic healthcare, personal care, and home care products, including Dabur Honey, Dabur Red Paste, and Odonil air fresheners.

Conclusion

Dabur India, a leading FMCG company with a portfolio of iconic brands like Dabur Chyawanprash, Dabur Amla, and Réal, is set to make a significant impact in South India with this new investment. The plant’s establishment in Tamil Nadu not only strengthens Dabur’s market presence but also promises to boost the local economy by creating jobs and fostering partnerships with local suppliers and farmers.
