The aftermath of Cyclone Michaung has led to a wave of disruptions in Tamil Nadu, prompting the state’s School Education Department to defer half-yearly exams in severely affected districts. The postponement primarily impacted Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram, while other regions proceeded with exams as scheduled.

In the most affected districts, schools have been granted authority to reschedule exams based on recovery progress, allowing headmasters to prepare separate question papers.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin took swift action, visiting the cyclone-stricken areas and overseeing relief efforts. He rallied support on social media, urging immediate assistance for the flood-hit regions and highlighting the government’s relentless efforts in relief operations.

Stalin requested an interim relief fund of Rs 5060 crore and a central team to assess the cyclone’s impact in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Cyclone Michaung’s devastating effects have submerged Chennai’s suburbs, causing widespread flooding. Evacuations and relief operations have been carried out by rescue teams comprised of Chennai police and Corporation personnel. Six people were killed in the city, and rescue efforts are still underway in the waterlogged Arumbakkam area.

Chennai’s Metropolitan Police Commissioner conducted a field assessment in Dansi Nagar and Velachery, emphasizing coordinated efforts among departments to aid affected individuals promptly. The police continue their tireless efforts to ensure the safety and support of affected communities, navigating challenging rescue missions across Chennai metropolitan areas.
