Cyber thugs targeted the director of a security service firm in South Delhi after which the firm lost Rs 50 lakh.
Meanwhile, the cybercrooks did everything by giving missed calls and blank calls, and interestingly Cyber thugs did not even send any OTP. The cyber crooks gave missed calls and a few calls but no sound from the other end.
Moreover, a complaint has been filed to the police in the matter and the police are investigating. The amount was transferred from the person’s account to different accounts through RTGS.
In terms of money siphoned this is the biggest cons reported from the capital. “In this fraud, scammers also contact people’s mobile phone carriers and trick them itno activating a SIM card. Once this happens, they take control over the phone,” the officer said.
Another officer said, “The crooks may also have been listening to the OTPs on phone through a parallel call initiated by them during the transaction. However, other angles, including a phone hijack, are also being probed.”
Earlier another case of sextortion has come to the fore when a 69-year-old man was implicated in a sex video call. After this, 16 lakh rupees were transferred to different accounts by blackmailing the person. The accused had described themselves as Crime Branch personnel.
