In Hajipur, Bihar, locals murdered a crocodile by beating it to death after it attacked and killed a 14-year-old boy. The crocodile attacked 14-year-old Ankit when he was taking a dip in the Ganga River, dragging him under.

A sizable contingent of peasants soon arrived at the river, armed with sticks and rods. They were successful in luring the crocodile out of the water, catching it with nets, and thrashing it to death.

According to a social media video that went viral, the large reptile was being taken out of the water by a group of men as they beat them with sticks and rods.

Following the tip, a team of forest department representatives travelled to the location and started an investigation.

They claimed that the cause of the crocodile’s death was being looked into and that appropriate action would thereafter be taken.

“We have received information that a crocodile has been killed. The reason is not yet known,” District Forest Officer Vaishali, Amita Raj told the reporters.

“Forest officials have reached the spot and an investigation is being done. Action will be taken against the violators for violating the Wildlife Protection Act,” she said.

The case is still under investigation, she stated.

We should understand how animals behave before treating them with such savagery.

Alligators, crocodiles, caimans, gharials, and other groups of living reptiles are dangerous to people. About half of the 23 crocodilian species that still exist today are thought to be harmful to humans, despite the fact that some of their progenitors were more terrifying than their current incarnations, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), known for its Red List that describes the state of many species’ conservation, raises awareness among the public about the fact that dangerous animals are just as crucial to our ecosystem as other species. Despite this, they are not as affable as some.

What draws crocodiles to prey on humans?

The four reasons why crocodiles attack humans are:

(1) They are hungry.

(2) They are defending their territory.

(3) They are protecting their young.

(4) They were planning to attack a different species—like a dog, a cat, or another domesticated animal—that just so happened to be nearby at the time.
