MDA is set to initiate repairs on a vital road that links SPR with new sectors and Manesar. The project, expected to commence around February 15, involves the resurfacing of the main road connecting sectors 75, 75A, 76, and 77, with an estimated cost of Rs 12.1 crore. Acquired by GMDA from HSVP in 2018, the 5.3km road has suffered from neglect in the past three years, resulting in the formation of numerous potholes and damaged sections. This lack of maintenance has inconvenienced commuters and led to frequent traffic congestion on the route.
The crucial stretch provides direct connectivity from these sectors and Manesar to NH-8, SPR and Dwarka Expressway.
The proposal to undertake the special repairs was approved in Feb last year and the metropolitan authority floated a tender in Aug.
“We have allotted the project to carry out special repairs of this crucial stretch to an agency and work is expected to start by Feb 15. Once completed, it will provide a safe and convenient ride and prevent the risk of mishaps,” a GMDA official said.
Road safety furniture, such as reflective road studs, cautionary signboards, metal delineators and flexible median markers will also be installed under the project, the completion of which is expected to take seven months.
Residents welcomed the move, saying it was long overdue. “Repairs of this road were pending for the last three years. This road is a lifeline for residents of new sectors from 77 to 99, as it provides direct connectivity to the main city without paying toll. We hope that the authorities execute this work in a planned manner and finish it within the stipulated time,” said Dhirender Singh, president of Mapsko Mount Ville.
Earlier, commercial vehicles also used this stretch as it bypasses the Kherki Daula toll plaza. Last month, GMDA installed height barriers to restrict the entry of heavy trucks and dumpers. But this, according to residents, has compounded the problem as trucks are now plying on the wrong side, adding to the snarls.
.Meanwhile, GMDA said the barriers were installed only at the entrance of the sector road as the CPR cloverleaf is closed. “Once it opens, we will install barriers at the exit points as well. In the meantime, traffic police and home guards are being deployed in the area to manage traffic flow,” the official added.
