India has recorded its worst-ever single-day spike of 75,760 coronavirus cases, taking its total past 3.3 million. India’s tally now stands at 3,333,732. With 1,017 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, the country’s death toll has breached the 60,000-mark. 25,23,771 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, taking the recovery rate to 76.24%.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state which recorded another massive spike of 14,718 fresh cases of coronavirus infection, taking the case tally in the state to 7,33,568. With 355 fatalities being recorded in the last 24 hours, the death toll reached 23,444. The number of active cases in the state is 1,78,234. The tally of Covid-19 cases in the financial capital increased to 1,40,882 with 1,350 more persons testing positive, while the death toll rose to 7,532 after 30 patients succumbed to the infection.
With 1,840 fresh Covid-19 cases, Delhi recorded its highest single-day spike in the month of August, taking its overall tally to 1,67,604. The death toll in the capital city also climbed to 4,369. Meanwhile neighbouring state Haryana reported 1,293 new Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths in last 24 hours, taking total cases to 59,298. The state has so far recorded 48,690 recoveries while 646 patients succumbed to the infection so far since the pandemic.
West Bengal’s tally of death toll jumped to 3,017 after 53 more people succumbed to the virus. The caseload crossed the 1,50,000-mark with 2,997 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. The state’s coronavirus tally stood at 1,50,772. A total of 3,189 people was discharged from hospitals during the period, taking the discharge rate to 80.28%. West Bengal now has 26,709 active cases.
Uttar Pradesh reported 76 Covid-19-related fatalities, taking the death count due to the disease to 3,217, while 5,463 new cases pushed the infection tally to 2,08,419. Uttar Pradesh minister Siddharth Nath Singh, too, tested positive for the virus and is under home quarantine.
Karnataka witnessed the highest spike in Covid-19 cases reported in a single day with as many as 9,386 new Covid-19 positive cases reported in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of cases in the state so far stands at 3.09 lakh. As many as 7,866 patients were discharged, taking the total number of discharges in the state to 2.19 lakh.
Tamil Nadu crossed four lakh Covid-19 cases while the death toll touched 6,948 with 109 more fatalities. The addition of 5,981 new infections took the tally to 4,03,242. The active cases were 52,364 with 3,43,930 total recoveries.
Andhra Pradesh moved closer to the four-lakh mark in coronavirus cases after adding 10,621 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The state’s Covid-19 tally now read 3.93 lakh total cases, 2.95 lakh recoveries and 3,633 deaths, leaving 94,209 active cases.
