Actress Courteney Cox is reportedly in talks to reprise her role as reporter Gale Weathers in the upcoming “Scream” installment. Cox first portrayed the character in the original 1996 film and has appeared in all subsequent sequels. “Scream 7” is set to be directed by Kevin Williamson, the creator and writer of the “Scream” franchise, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The project has undergone changes following the departure of star Jenna Ortega, the firing of actor Melissa Barrera, and the exit of director Christopher Landon last year. The “Scream” series began in 1996 with the late Wes Craven directing the initial film, followed by three sequels known for satirizing horror genre conventions. In 2022, the fifth film revitalized the franchise with the directing team Radio Silence, bringing back Cox, Neve Campbell, and David Arquette alongside a new cast of actors.

The success of “Scream 5” led to the development of “Scream 6,” released in 2023, which became the franchise’s highest-grossing movie to date.
