After the Punjab Assembly Elections, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who was alleged of being involved in a drugs case, surrendered in the Mohali court on Thursday. The Court sent Majithia to judicial custody till March 8. Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted protection to Majithia from arrest till February 23 in a criminal case till Punjab Assembly elections.
Bikram Singh Majithia is the brother of Harsimrat Kaur, former minister of the BJP government. The Supreme Court in its judgment had asked the SAD leader to surrender on February 23. The Supreme Court had also expressed surprise that criminal cases are suddenly coming to the fore on the eve of assembly elections in the state.
Speaking to reporters outside before entering the court premises, Majithia said, “As per the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, I have appeared before the Mohali court. Truth will come afore soon.”
The top court had recently directed the Punjab Police not to arrest the former state minister in a drug-related case till February 23 so that he can campaign in the state. Shiromani Akali Dal Spokesperson Advocate Arshdeep Kler said, “Regular Bail appeal is filed before court, this is case of political vendetta and we are fighting against all the odds.”
