Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Tuesday issued a non-bailable warrant against singer Sapna Chaudhary for repeatedly failing to appear in court for a cheating case.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police had charged Sapna Chaudhary based on a complaint filed by Pawan Chawla in 2021.
Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Rashmi Gupta ordered the non-bailable warrant after Sapna failed to appear in court despite a previous request for an exemption. The court noted that the accused had not appeared even after being contacted.
The case has been adjourned to October 25, 2024, for further proceedings and the execution of the warrant.
Advocate Randhir Lal Sharma, representing the complainant Pawan Chawla, appeared in court via video conferencing.
The allegations against Sapna Chaudhary involve obtaining money from the complainant under false pretenses for business ventures. It is alleged that she and a family member misappropriated the funds for personal use.
On May 28, 2024, the court initiated proceedings against Sapna Chaudhary under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code.
