NEW DELHI: The Daily Guardian got chatting with actor Ashrut Jain who stars in this year’s big Bollywood Christmas release ‘Coolie No. 1’ which will be streaming on Amazon Prime.
Tell us about yourself?
I am an actor and hail from a small town of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh who ended up for education at St. Xaviers College, Mumbai. I have been closely associated with theatre which I consider as yoga for actors since I got into this craft.
How did ‘Coolie No. 1’ come your way?
‘Craft’ which is the only godfather for any actor, has blessed me and given me the opportunity to work with some amazing directors in my career. It was my performance in ‘Mulk’ which made my presence felt to the top brass along with many commercials on TV which landed me this film. I got a call saying from ‘Coolie No. 1’ team we are considering you for a part and David Dhawan sir will be directing you. It was a moment where all his movies in a flash appeared in my mind. And I was like Govinda saying in ‘Partner’ ‘itni Khushi….itni Khushi…mujhe aaj tak nahi hui’. And the journey began.
How was the shooting experience?
We had an amazing schedule with brilliant actors like Varun Dhawan, Paresh sir, Javed Jaffery sir, Rajpal Yadav sir and Bharti ma’am in Bangkok. David sir is one of the most incredible and coolest directors the nation can ever have. It was like one huge family. We had full liberty for creativity. It’s David sir’s 45th film and I wish he completes his 50th very soon. I wish to work with him more.
What are your future plans?
God gives great opportunities once he knows you are giving your best. I am excited about the movie. On the work front, I have signed something in digital space which will be announced very soon. I’m happy that I’m a contestant for every massive movie and series which is getting made in India. Rest is ‘Will of God’ and destiny. I believe India will be a world leader in quality content real soon.
