The National Capital will host the inaugural meeting of the recently established Congress National Alliance Committee on Saturday. Sources close to the party said that the meeting is set to begin around 11.30 am. Prior to the Lok Sabha elections of the following year, the established political party had earlier on Tuesday announced the creation of a new panel aimed at bringing like-minded parties together through talks.

The committee, along with other like-minded partners, has been directed to negotiate seat distribution for the crucial election with the Congress’s allies in the opposition alliance, INDIA. In the wake of the saffron sweep in the heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the partners in the INDIA bloc convened for their fourth meeting recently, but they did not address the potentially contentious subject of seat sharing. But in the upcoming general elections, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge was suggested by two prominent alliance leaders, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, to be the Bloc’s national face against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“In the run-up to the general election 2024, the Congress president has constituted a National Alliance Committee with immediate effect,” the Congress said in a statement.
The members of the National Alliance Committee include senior party leader Mukul Wasnik, former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel.
