Congress to hold nationwide protest on Aug 22 over Hindenburg Research report, gherao ED offices

Congress will be holding a nationwide protest across the country and also ‘gherao’ the Enforcement Directorate’s office over the fresh allegations mentioned by the Hindenburg Reasearch report, party leaders said on Tuesday.

The decisio was taken at the meeting convened today at the party headquarters by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by newly appointed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Besides Rahul Gandhi, a total of 56 leaders including party’s general secretaries, state incharges and state unit chiefs attended the meeting.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here after the meeting, Congress General Secretary (organisation) and MP, KC Venugopal said, “During the meeting a detailed discussion was held on Hindenburg Research report, as it is one of the biggest scam happening in the country.

“We annoumiously decided to have nation wide protest for JPC on Adani scam as government is fully involved and maroet regulator (Sebi) also found to be severely compromised,” he alleged.

He said, “There will be a massive national-level agitation on August 22 throughout the country. We will gherao the Enforcement Directorate Office in each state capital demanding the SEBI Chairman to be removed from that position…”

Venugopal also said that “we have again reiterated our demand for national caste census from the Modi government”.

“We are demanding for a caste census without any delay. We decided to have a nation wide programme and we will chalk out a programme in coming days. There will be a massive social campaign across the country,” Venugopal said.

He also said that the party leaders condoled the death of people in Kerala’s Wayanad landslides and demanded the government to announce it as national disaster. He also said that the government must support all states where rhe landslides and disasters struck recently.

The Congress leader then said that we had again reiterated our demand of a nationwide caste census from the Government of India without any delay at all.

“Regarding the Bangladesh issue, a meeting was called by the Government of India to take all possible steps to ensure that targeted attacks on religious minorities and their places of worship are stopped and to ensure that they are enabled to live a life of security, dignity and harmony,” Venugopal said on Bangladesh issue.

When asked about thenrecent Supreme Court order on sub quota under SC and ST category, the Congress leader said that thenstand of the party has been cleared by party chief Kharge.

When asked about the creamy layer, he said, “The stand of the Congress is very clear on it. Certainly we are not for creamy layer. We have also put a committee to study in deeper way and it will complete the report after speaking to the stakeholders and all sates.”
